Hurricane Isabel

Holy Hurricane Batman!! Take a look at this!! It’s a amazing satellite image from one of NASA’s crazy gizmos. It’s all in true color and apparently what an astronaut would see if he/she were looking down on us. There is also a site with some explanation of the satellites used.

Hey, Mom and Dad - are you getting bamboozled by Isabel right now?

Also, this reminds me of when I lived in Jacksonville and we had the NASA channel - it continuously broadcast satellite images of the earth. It was very peaceful.

No, David, I’m not bamboozled at all by Isabel. In fact, I know her intentions quite well.

The weather service has been quite accurate in predicting her path, which is quite a bit to the west of us. We did see some rapid westerly cloud movement yesterday that was obviously caused by the hurricane, but haven’t seen much impact so far. This morning there were lots of leaves on the roads, and a few branches, but no major damage anywhere. The shore has seen heavy waves, but I haven’t heard much bad news.

The satellite photo is great though. Amazing that as the eye is hitting the outer banks, the edge of the storm is up in NJ.

When we were coming home from Uruguay, our big worry was Hurracane Isabel. I was flying through Washington, DC, and the next day we would have to drive across Pennsylvania. But the hurracane totally avoided us. There were clouds and some wind and even some drizzle in Washington, but mostly things were calm and clear.
