In case you haven’t heard, i have a freelance job at Semaphore Partners in downtown chicago. it’s a web design firm.
i’m pretty much producing web ad banners for GM Goodwrench. thrilling, right? so, for now, i guess i’ll collect some cash and then i’ll use my powers of design to heal the world, make it a better place for you and me.
i work exclusively in flash. check that. i use photoshop to get the images down to tiny sizes. every banner has to be under 15k (size limit). i’ve never had to worry about file size. so this is a good learning experience, with the file sizes and with having a clue what people around here are talking about. the first day they asked me if i had used “insert like 3 weird program titles here”. i was like, huh? i blankly stared. the first question i was asked when i got here was, “you know Flash, right?” turns out, i do. thank goodness.
mac iTunes is great. i listen to 80s internet radio stations all day. i recommend downloading joe jackson’s “steppin’”. what a song. currently bette davis eyes is on.
now, hot for teacher. i brought my…PENCIL!
in case you were wondering HOW i got this job, i visited this firm last year with robert my professor and a bunch of design students. his friend (tim) from school (ND) is the creative director here. so a couple weeks ago (2) i interviewed here with tim and he liked my stuff. i had zero flash stuff in my portfolio of work, but i told him i knew the program. so he called a week ago and asked if i could come in, and i said yes. then he told me my hourly rate and
