Summertime

What is everybody up to this summer? I thought I’d put an entry in here so we could have an online forum to discuss our plans and coordinate sessions of hanging out and chilling together. (this just in - I am the ruler of the comments! see the home page). We can put our plans/ideas in the comments section.

Also, I am hoping to go on an adventure of epic proportions this summer. I just need to find out where, when, and with whom. I’m thinking maybe Asia or the South Pacific - called Oceana by some texts - and technically part of Asia in the first place (Malaysia, Tahiti, some unknown archipelago or atoll, you know, scuba diving and exploring to the max). Who’s in? While answering that question, remember, if you’re not with me, you’re against me.

June 11th = Pat’s graduation
June 26th = in NJ for Katherine Smith’s wedding
July 24th or so = in Vermont at Mike Faggella-Luby’s grandparents’ cottage.
(I’ll probably check in back in NJ too)

I hate to have to do this, but I don’t think I’ll be graduating this June 11th. My dissertation is not in shape yet, so I’ll have to defend it after the April 26th deadline, which means I will “graduate” after the Summer quarter (when there is no graduation ceremony). While I hate that the university has such an early dissertation defense date for Spring graduation, I take full responsibility for not finishing on time.

Maybe we could have a small family reunion in Athens during that time?

Bummer to the max. At first, from reading just the comment intro line on the homepage, I thought I was in trouble. It said, “I hate to have to do this…” From that I thought I was going to get yelled at for improper formating or posting.

I’m all for a celebratory get together/reunion.

Well, I’m all for going to a graduation, but if not, I’m all for not missing two days during the last week of school. How’s that sound? I hope I can see y’all sooner (hint hint), but I think we can figure something out. Davey and I were contemplating being in NJ for the 4th of July. I would like to play in the Belmar qualifier (AVP) on July 8th, so that could work out if he stays after Katherine’s wedding and I go home early.

Here are some important summer dates for me:
June 16: last day of school
July 8: Belmar
July 22: Hermosa AVP
Sept. 2 (or so): Chicago AVP

I may work around some of these dates. I’m open to a trip! Let me know, folks, let me know.

I’ll be at the AVP in Chicago. That’s the only date I have circled on my summer calendar. I’d like to have all the summer dates circled with “JOB” written inside of them. But who knows. My small-business is going alright in the meantime. I might trek out to Hermosa, I hope.

Oh, June 5 is Peter O’Donnell’s wedding. I’m going to that. My first wedding reception invite and attendance ever. Neato!

It is looking more and more likely that I will not graduate in June, but I will be sure to finish up everything so I can graduate in August, when there is no ceremony… And Dan, weddings are not very fun.
