Dreams
Last night I had a dream about Leon Uris. Bill Calvin and I went to visit him at his nice house on 27th street in Milwaukee. It was a house I’d always admired as I passed by on the bus to Marquette High. We talked about his latest book, which was of course well received and probably on the NYT best seller list (I don’t know that for sure, but the way we were talking about it, actually we were “interviewing” him about it, like Terry Grosse on her NPR program.) Anyway, I was reading another of his books at the time. A book entirely made up in my out-of-control sleeping brain. It was pretty good. It had lots of vignettes about people who were persecuted during WWII.
Then, somehow, I was a character in the book (I think). Some guy was getting me to address and send some packages (which contained food) to this other acquaintance of ours who lived somewhere in a house full of lawyers. He was not himself a lawyer, but more like that guy who accompanied Bill Bryson on his hike down the Appalacian Trail. (Was this guy named Kaz or something?) I’m getting to the edges of what I remember. Along the way, I took a bus trip with “Kaz” and he talked about how he didn’t really know these lawyers he was staying with. While I was trying to mind my own business, some guy was singing a Broadway hit song (very familiar, but I can’t remember any more). Apparently, I’m not sure because this had happened before I was paying attention, he had told someone sitting in the front seat that he was a song and dance man. Then he started singing to demonstrate his ability. He kept singing this song (actually he had a pretty good voice) for much longer than he would have had to. I mean, a normal person (I personally would not have bragged about being a broadway singer, let alone start to sing) would have sung a few bars and then quit, but this guy went on and on, singing the whole song as far as I remember.
Then I woke up and the radio was playing an old Terry Grosse interview of Leon Uris. No, not really, although the radio was on and some WABC talk show was playing.
Now my question is, can anyone interpret this dream?
