Rupert Wins!
As most of us hoped, Rupert Boneham has won the people’s choice award on Survivor. It’s worth a cool million, just like the other winning prizes. I hope this goes to show that people, no matter how they love a good dastardly scandal, still mostly want goodness and honesty and integrity and tedd-bear cuddliness. Granted, Rupert’s first act on Survivor was to steal the shoes of the opposing tribe (who foolishly left them unattended, or attended by Rupert, their opponent), but he made even that thievery seem like the right thing to do (“Pirates pillage. Pirates steal. Pirates take advantage. We are pirates, so we pirated,” he said, and he was right). But then he went on to wear a skirt during the rest of his time on the island, so you knew he was all-right! Anyway, there’s a lot you could say about Rupert, but I’m just glad he won. Maybe the producers of the show will try to finagle the environment to reward honest folks more.

Dan • 05/15/04 • 10:29 AM:How about this: Stop making Survivor seasons!
Though I liked the episodes I saw this season, it’s on so much I don’t even care if I miss it. I’ve completely lost interest. Maybe that makes me a stupid American consumer because I have hardly an attention span, but hey. There’s something to be said about that.
Patrick • 05/15/04 • 6:10 PM:I don’t see how the Survivor people plugging away making more shows affects those who don’t watch it. Should I care that some people are up early every morning practicing their ice skating? I don’t have to get up with them, so let them do whatever they want.
In other news, Karina saw a thing on t.v. today where Jeff Probst said that Rupert got 87% of the votes for people’s Survivor. Holy McMoley. Goes to show even more that people like good guys.
Anita • 05/16/04 • 8:21 PM:That’s a pretty amazing number, 87%. If it’s true, then I’m no longer depressed that Rob M. made the final four, because it means there’s Rupert, and there’s everyone else. The final four has no meaning with 13% of the vote being spread among 17 people. Even if you figure some of the people got virtually no votes (like former winners), it still means that the other 3 in the final four probably only got between 2 and 5 each. I did a search trying to confirm the 87 but couldn’t find anything — I’d be curious to know how the voting broke down, if anyone comes across an article, I’d be interested in the link.
