Rush’s album of cover songs!

Rush FeedbackTime was when I knew far in advance all the nifty things happening with Rush, but today I was completely and pleasantly surprised to learn that Rush will be releasing a new album on June 29th. It’ll contain 8 cover songs from the late 60s, including Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth,” some Yardbirds, the Who, and Cream.

It seems Rush is getting freer, more playful (at least I hope that’s what it is, and not just them wanting more money). I’m excited to be going to see them in Salt Lake City the day after this new album is released. Other Maddens may wish to see them June 5 in Chicago or July 6 in Los Angeles. Long live Rush!

Can you believe the gall of Peter to have his wedding on the same day Rush rocks Chicago? Neither can I.

Suggestion to you: “Hey, Pete! That wedding was rad! Congratulations! I’m not feeling too well, so I think I’ll be going… You probably want to spend some time with your lovely bride anyway, right?”

What time is the dude’s wedding? Is it going to last past 8 at night? Oh, wait. Is it at Notre Dame? If so, then you’d have to leave there by like 6 pm. And where are your priorities? Rush only has ONE thirtieth anniversary show in Chicago, you know.

I got the album yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think Geddy Lee’s voice would adapt well to songs like Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth,” but he does a good job. In fact, I was listening to it while I was preparing some stuff for class, so I got lost in thought and the music was in the background of my head, and all of a sudden I realized that I was listening to Rush, not some other good band. In any case, good songs done well. Tonight Karina and I are going to the show. Whoo hoo!

By the way, one hilarious detail of the album cover is the naked man in the star. He looks just like the one you’ve seen before, but he’s got a headband on and his right hand is giving the “peace” sign. Beauty, eh?
