How Maddenation Uses Movable Type

This is a family weblog with 10 authors. It uses 1 Movable Type weblog. Not all 10 authors have posted, though we hope they someday will. We also hope, in the future, to open the site up to other family members: cousins, uncles, aunts, etc. so we’ll have many more authors.

I’m telling you this because recently Movable Type has been developing a for-pay version of their software, and they want input on how to charge for it. While I would not be averse to paying to use the software, the current licensing seems a little steep (though it’s a vast improvement over the original licensing structure, which would have placed our humble site in the $700 range). Of course, we’re not required to upgrade. We can continue to run this version of the software, which has served us well. But the developers have asked folks to write entries in their blogs detailing the way they use Movable Type. So here’s ours. And here’s hoping there’s a nice, economical version of the software for us, should we decide to upgrade.

P.s. We’re hoping the new version will have built-in author archiving, and will allow multiple authors to be assigned to one entry.
