Trebuchet
A recent NOVA episode dramatized the building of the medieval castle crushing weapon, the trebuchet (or catapult). I propose building a scale model trebuchet for our next family project. There are lots of websites that provide plans for building these machines, but we should avoid buying the plans in favor of designing our own. After all, the designing, building, and trying it out are the main sources of fun. If it doesn’t work the first time, we merely go back to the drawing board and try again. Are you up for it?

If we did this in the snow (and built two of them) and could launch snowballs at each other’s forts, that’d be great. Let’s work on making this an activity that has some all-inclusive fun at the end, after everything is made. Or think of something else that has those qualities.
