Will There Be Blood?
Call me a philistine, but I just don’t get There Will Be Blood. I mean, it’s incredibly slow; the music is annoying and inappropriate; there are big gaps in the storyline; and it’s just about every critic’s darling.
Has anybody else seen this thing? To me and Karina, it just stinks of that “oh-so-avant-garde” thing (said in snobby French accent). I find it hard to believe that we actually sat through that entire 2.5 hours of boredom.

Dad • 04/16/08 • 11:11 PM:I haven’t seen it, but I assume there was blood? Mom and I just rented “Enchanted” and found it to be enchanting. Absolutely wonderful. If you haven’t seen it, you should. Good for the kids too, although they might not get all the amusing allusions to previous fairy tales.
Patrick • 04/18/08 • 11:51 PM:Thanks, Dad. You had me cracking up while Karina was just staring at me. I told her what you wrote, and she didn’t find it funny. So I cracked up some more.
Anyway, yeah, there’s some blood, but not too much, really.
We’ve also seen “Enchanted,” and liked it pretty well (Karina & the kids loved it). I think it’s way better than Shrek, which tried to do a lot of similar things by undercutting the whole fantasy genre.
David • 04/21/08 • 8:16 PM:Nice one Pops. I haven’t seen “Blood”.
But I did see American Gangster
over the weekend. It was awesome. I highly recommend it. It’s far more than a shoot ‘em up movie. Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe give amazing performances. The movie focuses on the good and bad in all of us. See it!
As for Enchanted. It was okay. I watched it on the airplane on the way to Cali. It’s nice and cute, but “absolutely wonderful”? No way. The Princess Bride is absolutely wonderful. Enchanted was cute. Let’s not get carried away.
Dan • 06/10/08 • 12:01 AM:I liked the movie. The music was kooky, but what do you expect from one of the guys in Radiohead?
I’ve heard a lot of good things and a lot of bad things about the movie, so I was really interested in seeing if I liked it.
What were the gaps in storyline? To me, it was a movie that focused on the development of a guy’s business and the responsibility and power that comes with growing an empire. Not a happy ending, but it was guys like that and stories like this that helped America “prosper”, right?
