Flying objects identified
It would have been more appropriate to post this on April 1, but I didn’t know about it then. Did you?
Anyway, who says nothing ever happens in Whippany? I vaguely remember hearing something about it, but certainly didn’t see those “lights in the sky.” Nice to see some local boys we know getting some press coverage, even if it does ultimately, maybe, but really not likely mean jail time and a criminal record.
I remember a time growing up in the 50s when there were UFO sightings all the time. We saw some strange lights from my backyard one night and wondered if they were alien driven. I didn’t believe it then and have never believed it since. I do believe it’s an interesting social phenomenon, however.

I suppose there is some validity to the worries that the balloons could interfere with aircraft, but I’m mostly just happy that these guys pulled it off (and for quite a while, too, before turning themselves in). I’m glad their punishment was not severe. I think this indicates that the officers and judge were privately tickled by the prank.
